If I had three wishes, I’d wish that this book didn’t have to end, that Kevin would write a sequel, and that he had started publishing his works much earlier! Kevin is a talented writer. I highly recommend this book! I really loved all of the little pieces of his own life scattered throughout the book! Congratulations, Kevin!
A great read by Mr. Hicks. In addition to being a real page-turner, "Quitter" has characters you care and root for, funny/clever turns-of-phrases and references sure to please Gen Xers (well, anyone with some level of pop culture acumen). Lots of heart.
If you relish the skillful, first-person prose of Jack Kerouac, the hilarious cultural reference humor of Dennis Miller and the prospect of eternal hope, you will eat this book up like the champion of the Coney Island hot dog eating contest. Kevin Hicks has given us a story that is at once funny, thought-provoking and inspiring. Sawyer Kent is adrift in life and bereft of hope when he is given a chance to chart a new course and right some old wrongs. Along the way, he must stare down into the abyss within and face the darkness there with the Light from above. Quitter shows us that no one is so lost that they cannot be found by the God of mercy, grace and kindness.
I desperately hope this is just book one! I want to see what's next for Sawyer Kent and all the denizens of Hanover. The world of scholastic fine arts and school politics is a rich, untapped soil for narrative. Thank you Kevin Hicks for bringing us your glimpse of this world!
This story is worth your time to read to be reminded that life is worth it. You will find some of yourself and others you know in these pages and will feel the characters' doubts and strengths. Second chances (or third, fouth...) are out there not only following your transgressions but when horrible things have happened to you that knock you down. I'm glad I came across this book and look forward to other work by this author!
This book is very good. It has a lot to say about life and that God has a plan for all of us. It's a fast read. I've given it as a gift and recommended it to my church book club. It has received good reviews from all the people that I know who have recommended it.
